Equality Reps

Branch Equality Reps will be part of Somerset Branch Equalities team, working with Branch equalities officers to:

  • Champion good equality practices in the workplace identify good and bad equalities practice within their workplace
  • Support UNISON's Equality Scheme and advocate for good equality practices in the branch
  • Support UNISON's Equality Scheme and advocate for good equality practices in the branch
  • Raise awareness in the workplace about what UNISON and the branch does around equality
  • Support branch negotiators by identifying and scutinising information about the employer's equality performance
  • Encourage the branch to prioritise equality by e.g. raising issues at branch meetings
  • Advise members on equality issues
  • Signpost members with potential equality related cases to appropriate stewards or branch officers

Equalities Reps will be provided training on relevant equalities legislation such as the new Equality Act to be passed in 2010, and Public Equality Duties.
